We know the areas of West Sussex extremely well and have been a first port of call for many for over 14 years! East Grinstead is a town and civil parish in the north-eastern corner of West Sussex which is the area we specialise in. It is situated 27 miles from London, 21miles north of Brighton and 38 miles east northeast of Chichester. It is near to both Crawley and Horley and is a very popular settlement for commuters. It is a beautiful and prosperous area steeped in history.
There are state and independent schools available. Seven county council primary schools and two secondary schools service East Grinstead. There are also two private prep schools – Brambletye School and Ashdown House. If you are looking for property in East Grinstead you will find the local education, retail and services landscape very palatable.
Go and explore Ashdown Forest (where the Winnie-the-Pooh stories are set) and a preserved heritage line with steam locomotives called the Bluebell Railway. There is an impressive town museum which documents the famed actions of plastic surgeon Archibald McIndoe who treated burns victims during World War II and the bombing raids when the town was targeted during the same war. There is a modern purpose-built theatre called The Chequer Mead Community Arts Centre which stages amateur plays, opera, ballet, music and talks.
The High Street contains a 14th century timber-framed run of buildings which is one of the longest in England. There are numerous notable buildings that were built in 1609. The perpendicular Gothic 18th century St Swithun’s Church has an imposing history. You should certainly check out the 1769 East Court mansion and explore the country house belonging to the National Trust on the towns outskirts called Standen.
